CHAMBRE SIGNATURE MICK JAGGER

The story says that…

Mick Jagger, born on July 26th, 1943, is an author, composer, singer and cofounder of the famous British rock band “ The Rolling Stones”.

Mick Jagger and the Stones got to experience the “beat generation” of Tangier, which inspired poets, musicians and other literary and artistic figures of the beatnik movement, a generation that rejected the conventions and codes of modern society and aspired to a way of life stripped of superfluity.

In Tangier, the Rolling Stones were introduced to the traditional “Jajouka” music. Performed by the villagers of the “Jajouka” district, located 120 km from Tangier, this music is an enchanting composition of tones of ghaïtas (oboe), percussions and melancholic flute sounds. It carries within it the sound of the wind and the thousand-year-old echo of the Rif’s foothills.

The Jajouka strongly inspired the Rolling Stones, to such an extent that they recorded two albums in Tangier with the masters of the discipline:
– In 1971, the posthumous album of Brian Jones, the original leader, of the Rolling Stones called; the pan pipes of Jajouka;
– In 1989, the title Continental Drift, from the Steel Wheels album.

Since the sixties, Mick Jagger and his band have often returned to Tangier, where it is said “that they had their habits”. History will remember that through music they have built bridges between the two dramatically opposite cultures and have introduced the jajouka to the world.
